The Mac version had been released on March 24, and the iOS version had been released on April 9. It is still a new application, but in 0.8.1, which was released the other day, the name was also changed to “zen Babel”. And today, we would like to inform you of the change in the interface design of the application.
The Pre-Babel Lens was a warm design with the image of sun-dried bricks, but I thought it would be better to have a shape in line with Apple’s OS if it was named zen. I originally like the minimalist design, and the maintenance seems easy, so this is what happened.

Let’s line it up with the previous design.

The difference at a glance is that the characters have disappeared from the interface. Paste, Clear, and Translate are gone, and all of them have become SF Symbols icons. The labels Source and Output have also disappeared.
The previous – the current design is also good. It’s not bad at all.Although it is not decorated with custom images, the beige gradient is friendly. The visibility of the buttons is high, and you can see the function and what the field is at a glance. On the other hand, the new design is “cold and lacks explanation”. I knew that and decided to make a change.
The greater reason is the amount of text you can read. In the previous design, there were two headers (Source and Output) to place buttons and field names. In terms of text, 2-3 lines each. A total of 6 lines were occupied. I was able to read posts and reports in the previous design. It accounted for most of it on a daily basis, but if it is a new version that has become an all-round leader, documents can be read. You can read opinion articles, and if it’s short, you can read novels and manuscripts.
And this time, I gathered the positions of most buttons in the center of the screen. This is not for visual symmetry. It is easy to use with the left hand or small hand. Because the iPhone has grown, even if I’m big, most of the apps can’t be operated with my left hand. Apple and Google are instructing you to line up important buttons at the bottom of the screen, but I don’t like the way you operate by bending your thumb.
So, I gathered the buttons in the middle, thinking that my app would be easy to use for me. Of course, it’s easy to use with your right hand. You don’t have to force your thumb to bend and press the translation button.

In this version upgrade, there is one limit. Moreover, in order to reduce the number of buttons displayed at once, we have introduced an implicit mode that changes functions depending on the state.

When nothing is in the field, the button for loading is activated, and when there is text, only the trash button for deletion is activated. If you do not delete the text, the next loading will not be possible. It’s an interface that takes away the user’s freedom, but I didn’t know whether the paste and loading would be inserted or overwritten, so I introduced an implicit mode. I might be able to get it back, but I’m still more anxious right now. Sorry.
Anyway, zenBabel got a full viewer and a focus button. I don’t think there will be a big change in the interface for a while. It looks like an Apple standard app, but in fact it’s not that much, but I’m glad to be able to stay on your iPhone for a long time.
Then please wait for the update. The rest depends on Apple’s review.
